The unpacking is done (mostly), and we’re starting to enjoy settling in. Of course, I’m still focused on all that’s left to do –unfinished finishes, paint problems, scratched floors, wrinkled drapes, missing furniture. When I put down the punch list, though, I realize that the place is starting to look pretty good –especially if I turn down the lights and squint a bit.
Here are a few glimpses of our recent progress:
The kitchen fixtures and hardware are in, and, most importantly, the kitchen is functional (if not completely finished).
The bar area (flanked by coat closets) is finished and set up, which has come in handy after evenings of unpacking . . . .
A pair of vintage club chairs just arrived from the upholsterer.
As did a small sofa that we moved from Southampton to use in our bedroom sitting area.
We jazzed up the vanilla tile in the powder room with some wallpaper (a David Hicks design from the 70s).
And a couple of favorite large paintings arrived from our San Francisco place safe and sound (seen in the first and fourth pictures above).
We’ve got a ways to go, but it already feels like home.
